Prayer Topic, "Inside Job"

Join Us in Prayer for our Nation, our Leaders and Topics of Concern for the week of 6/26/15 - 7/2/15

Inside Job

Among the important laws you’ve probably never heard of is the Refrigerator Safety Act, passed by Congress on August 2, 1956. “It shall be unlawful,” the Act provides, “for any person to introduce or deliver for introduction into interstate commerce any household refrigerator…unless it is equipped with a device, enabling the door thereof to be opened from the inside.” What was the point of this? Before that date, many children got trapped in refrigerators – playing hide and seek and other such games – and suffocated.

Pilate said to them, “You have a guard of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.”
Matthew 27:65

This type of problem didn’t enter into Pilate’s thinking when he ordered soldiers to secure the tomb containing the body of Jesus. He wanted to make sure the Savior stayed inside…and not because he thought Jesus might come back to life, but because of fears His body would be stolen by followers. But when Jesus arose, He wasn’t going to be stopped by two soldiers, or two million.

Are you discouraged when it seems much is against you? A single word spoken by God can roll back the schemes and evil intentions of any man. As you pray for America today, remember that the Lord hears the righteous when they call!

Prayer Topic, "Incredible Trust"

Join Us in Prayer for our Nation, our Leaders and Topics of Concern for the week of 6/19/15 - 6/25/15

Incredible Trust

Many famous quotes have the words “if you can” in them. Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.” Henry Ford said, “If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.”

And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can believe?” All things are possible for one who believes.”
Mark 9:23

In Mark 9, Jesus, Peter, James and John left His transfiguration and came upon a crowd. The people were criticizing the disciples because they couldn’t heal a young boy. Jesus questioned the father and he described his boy’s illness. The father said to Jesus, “If you can do anything, have compassion and help us.” Today’s verse records the Lord’s response. He wanted them to understand there’s no “if” involved. He can. Period.

Through Him, you can, too. Are you doubting your abilities today? You can do all things through Christ (Philippians 4:13). Know in your heart and mind He can accomplish anything according to His will. Pray for spiritual strength for yourself, the nation and its leaders to remember how powerful God is…and to trust in Him for the incredible!

Deeply personal information submitted by U.S. intelligence and military personnel for security clearances is in the hands of hackers linked to China, according to government officials.

Hillary Clinton used the first major rally of her second run for the White House on Saturday to make a populist case for her presidential campaign.

The president of the nation’s largest Protestant denomination vowed this week never to officiate at a same-sex union, and the Southern Baptist Convention called on the U.S. Supreme Court not to declare a constitutional right to same-sex marriage. (This is taking a Christian stand for God.  We are to love the people, not their sins.)

While the public debate over American policing has been rolling for months, a quieter debate has been playing out at the Supreme Court, which is now refining some of the rules that govern police conduct across the country.

URGENT PRAYER ALERT: South Carolina Church Shooting

URGENT PRAYER ALERT:

’Unfathomable’ - Gunman at Large After 9 Killed in South Carolina Church Shooting
A manhunt is on in South Carolina after a gunman opened fire at a historic African-American church in downtown Charleston, killing nine, including the prominent pastor and state senator, during a regular Wednesday night prayer meeting.
Police immediately branded the shooting spree, which began just after 9 p.m., a hate crime, and released surveillance images of a youthful white man fleeing the scene at the 180-year old Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church after the horrific incident, which left six women and three men dead.
"This is an unspeakable and unfathomable act by somebody filled with hate and a deranged mind," Charleston’s Mayor said in a Thursday morning press conference. He vowed that authorities were "committed to finding this horrible scoundrel." Authorities said the crime scene investigation had been complicated by a bomb threat that had been called in, forcing police to move members of the media back and close off a large section of the street where the shooting took place. No bomb was found.
The shooter did not just barge in but apparently sat with the congregation for nearly an hour before opening fire.
The Justice Department and FBI have joined the investigation. (Sources: Fox, ABCNews)
As the Lord leads, please pray:

    • For the families and friends of the deceased individuals, including the pastor.
    • For members of the congregation and community left in shock at so heinous an act.
    • Pray for the gunman's repentance and salvation, Jesus died for him too.

    Prayer Topic, "Trivial Traditions"

Join Us in Prayer for our Nation, our Leaders and Topics of Concern for the week of 6/12/15 - 6/18/15

    Trivial Traditions

Silly traditions are not always harmless. Take, for example, the “Gatorade bath,” a ritual started by the New York Giants. It involves sneaking up behind a coach at the conclusion of a football game and pouring an industrial-sized cooler of ice-cold liquid over his head. It used to be reserved for momentous events like the Super Bowl, but eventually expanded to games of questionable importance. On a cold November day in 1990, legendary coach George Allen received a Gatorade shower from his players after his team, Long Beach State, beat Nevada-Las Vegas to attain a season record of six wins and five losses. The elderly Allen became ill after the dousing…and died a month later.

You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition!
    Mark 7:9

The Pharisees were preoccupied with ceremonial traditions – and attacked Jesus’ disciples for ignoring those traditions – even while people all around were in desperate need of help and compassion. In today’s verse, the Lord had sharp words for those with this obsession of majoring on the minors.

As you lift up America’s leaders, pray that God may direct them to follow His commandments and receive His wisdom for addressing the great needs of this nation.

    Prayer Topic, "God in You"

Join Us in Prayer for our Nation, our Leaders and Topics of Concern for the week of 6/5/15 - 6/11/15

    God in You

Most people have had the disconcerting experience of having a child wander off in a store or hide themselves in a closet. Now imagine Mary’s worry when she realized that her twelve-year-old son hadn’t been with their caravan for three days.

And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.
    Luke 2:47

When she and Joseph found Jesus, He had the religious leaders mesmerized by His wisdom and insights. To top it off, He seemed to be surprised that His parents hadn’t figured out where He’d be. It’s hard to understand divinity in a human body. The people who had the most trouble with it were the ones closest to Him – even though they were the ones who had also heard the testimony of angels and prophets.

As you live your daily life, you might think your actions have no significance. Yet if you have trusted Christ as your Savior, you are the temple of the Holy Spirit. You are carrying around divinity. Prayer lets divine power manifest in your life and areas of influence. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit inside you…and pray for God’s will to be done in your life and in this country.
