Protective Hand
Ezra
was a priest sent by King Artaxerxes to help rebuild Jerusalem after the Jewish
exile. The king gave him a letter stating that any Jews could return to their
homeland with the priest. Ezra had spoken highly of the Lord to King
Artaxerxes, who wasn’t a believer.
So we fasted and implored our God for this,
and he listened to our entreaty.
Ezra 8:23
|
Before
heading over the river, Ezra stopped to fast and ask the Lord for safety. “For
I was ashamed to ask the king for a band of soldiers and horsemen to protect us
against the enemy on our way, since we had told the king, ‘The hand of our God
is for good on all who seek him, and the power of his wrath is against all who
forsake him.’” (Ezra 8:22) His prayer came from a desire to glorify the name of
the great I Am.
When your prayers grow from a yearning to make the name of God great, He’s moved to answer. Pray for the Lord to be glorified in this nation. Ask Him to protect Christians as they lift Him up in their homes and communities. Intercede, too, for America and its national leaders to recognize the hand of protection from your Heavenly Father and glorify Him accordingly.

1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may
lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
