Prayer Topic, "Protective Hand"

Join Us in Prayer for our Nation, our Leaders and Topics of Concern for the week of 9/25/15 - 10/01/15

 Protective Hand

Ezra was a priest sent by King Artaxerxes to help rebuild Jerusalem after the Jewish exile. The king gave him a letter stating that any Jews could return to their homeland with the priest. Ezra had spoken highly of the Lord to King Artaxerxes, who wasn’t a believer.

So we fasted and implored our God for this, and he listened to our entreaty.
Ezra 8:23

Before heading over the river, Ezra stopped to fast and ask the Lord for safety. “For I was ashamed to ask the king for a band of soldiers and horsemen to protect us against the enemy on our way, since we had told the king, ‘The hand of our God is for good on all who seek him, and the power of his wrath is against all who forsake him.’” (Ezra 8:22) His prayer came from a desire to glorify the name of the great I Am.

When your prayers grow from a yearning to make the name of God great, He’s moved to answer. Pray for the Lord to be glorified in this nation. Ask Him to protect Christians as they lift Him up in their homes and communities. Intercede, too, for America and its national leaders to recognize the hand of protection from your Heavenly Father and glorify Him accordingly.

Prayer Topic, "Poweful Proclamation"

Join Us in Prayer for our Nation, our Leaders and Topics of Concern for the week of 9/18/15 - 9/24/15

Powerful Proclamation

In Genesis 18, Abraham showed courage in the way he approached the Lord. He continued pressing God to save Sodom for the sake of any righteous living in the land. In today’s passage, Peter and John prayed for courage as they shared the good news of Christ. After Jesus’ crucifixion, speaking about Him was dangerous, but the apostles asked God to help them overcome their fears and proclaim His name.

Grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness.
Acts 4:29

Many Christians in modern times are being persecuted for sharing about the Lord. Even believers in America are coming under fire, yet they are courageously defending their faith.

Notice the theme of courage. God wants you to approach Him with courage and ask for boldness to spread His truth and love. Ask the Lord, as the apostles did, to share with confidence. “For the word of God is living and active.” (Hebrews 4:12) Pray for the words that come out of your mouth to accomplish His purposes (Isaiah 55:11). Then intercede for those Christians who hold offices in national government to have wisdom and discernment about when and to whom they speak the name of Jesus.

Prayer Alert - Eleven Dead In Floods, Bus Crash And Wildfires

Nearly a dozen people have died in three different events across the nation.

At least eight people are confirmed dead and five more missing after two cars were caught in a flash flood along the Utah-Arizona border. Several vehicles were reportedly swept into waterways after heavy rains hit the area late Monday afternoon. The victims included women and small children, all from the Colorado City, Arizona and Hildale, Utah, area.

Meanwhile, two students were killed, and two other students and a bus driver were seriously injured when a school bus fell off a Houston overpass and landed on its side on the access road below, firefighters said Tuesday.

Investigators with the Houston Police Department said the bus driver swerved to avoid a car coming into his lane and over-corrected, resulting in the bus plunging off the overpass.

And, nearly 600 homes have gone up in flames in wildfires that roared to life over the weekend in Northern California. Another 9,000 are threatened, according to Cal Fire. One person has died in the Valley Fire: a 72-year-old woman with multiple sclerosis who couldn’t get out of her house. Now at 67,000 acres, the fires are only 15 percent contained. (Sources: USA Today, CNN)

As the Lord leads, please pray:

  • For the families of those killed in the bus crash, flooding and wildfires
  • For investigators as they determine the cause of the bus crash
  • For fire crews as they battle high temperatures and wind in battling the California wildfires

Prayer Topic, "Big Requests "

Join Us in Prayer for our Nation, our Leaders and Topics of Concern for the week of 9/11/15 - 9/17/15

Big Requests

“Give an inch, they’ll take a mile,” is an idiom meaning, “Do something for someone, they’ll often ask for more.” An actual inch is one-twelfth of a foot, and there are 5,280 feet in a mile – so a person who requests that much is quite bold.

“Suppose ten are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.”
Genesis 18:32

Abraham used that level of boldness to request mercy for Sodom when God planned to destroy it. He pleaded, “What if there are fifty righteous people there?” God agreed to withhold judgment for fifty. Abraham was persistent. “Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking. Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?” (Genesis 18:28) As God agreed to spare them, Abraham continued dropping the number until he got to ten.

God wants us to be bold in our prayers. “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16) Take your big requests to God, for yourself and especially for the rescue and salvation of others. Then boldly pray for President Obama to be courageous in his own prayer life.

Prayer Topic, "Humble Confidence"

Join Us in Prayer for our Nation, our Leaders and Topics of Concern for the week of 9/04/15 - 9/10/15

Humble Confidence

“Oh, Lord, it’s hard to be humble,” said an old song by Mac Davis, “when you’re perfect in every way.” Humility is a character trait for which not many pray. Who wants to be humble? But the Bible tells us God gives His favor to those who live in humility (Proverbs 3:34).

I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer…with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.
Daniel 9:3

When Daniel wanted to hear from the Lord, today’s passage says he put on ashes and a sackcloth and fasted. In biblical times, when people wanted to show repentance, they dressed in rough, unsightly clothes, threw ashes on themselves and withheld from eating. It was a way to say, “God. I am nothing without you. Please hear my prayer!”

When you are desperate for the Lord, you don’t sit in a lounge chair, put your feet up, drink a latte and say, “Hear me, O God!” If you want mountain-moving prayers, you get on your face before the Lord. Lower yourself and admit your helplessness to the Creator of the Universe. Then pray with humble confidence for your national leaders and all Americans to be humble before the One True King and awe in His holy presence.
