Prayer Topic, "Weak Yet Strong"

Join Us in Prayer for our Nation, our Leaders and Topics of Concern for the week of 10/30/15 – 11/05/15

Weak Yet Strong

Ten years ago, Brian Nichols went on a murderous rampage at the Fulton County Courthouse in downtown Atlanta. He killed four people and injured others. Hours later, Nichols took Ashley Smith, a widowed young mother, hostage in her apartment. Smith was struggling with life and with a drug addiction. Yet God gave her the courage to remain calm during the ordeal. After several hours, she asked Nichols if she could read the book, The Purpose Driven Life. Nichols conceded and told her to read it out loud. Eventually, Ashley was able to leave the apartment and Nichols was arrested.

He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Isaiah 40:29

“I really believe that God spared my life because He wanted me to go around the world and tell people that He changed me,” said Smith. “You know, I didn’t do anything in my apartment that night but lay down my brokenness to God and He’s brought me to a very different place in my life in the last 10 years.”

As you spend time with the Lord, ask Him for His unlimited strength during your times of weakness. Pray also that your nation’s leaders will depend on God for their needs.

House Republicans formally nominated Representative Paul Ryan for Speaker Wednesday, looking to him to help unify the party after a tumultuous period - although defections in the ranks could preview some last-minute drama on the House floor.

Fourth-graders and eighth-graders across the United States lost ground on national mathematics tests this year, the first declines in scores since the federal government began administering the exams in 1990.

Paul Ryan Picked by GOP to Replace Boehner as House Speaker

House Republicans formally nominated Representative Paul Ryan for Speaker Wednesday, looking to him to help unify the party after a tumultuous period - although defections in the ranks could preview some last-minute drama on the House floor.

The Wisconsin congressman and 2012 GOP vice presidential nominee easily beat rival Representative Daniel Webster of Florida to become the Republican nominee, with 200 lawmakers backing Ryan and 43 backing Webster. Ryan will formally stand for a vote in the full House on Thursday, likely against Democrats’ pick Nancy Pelosi.

"This begins a new day in the House of Representatives," Ryan said in brief remarks after Wednesday’s internal vote. While praising outgoing Speaker John Boehner, he vowed to begin "turning a page." He added, "Our party has lost its vision, and we are going to replace it with a vision." Ryan as Speaker would mark a stark change in leadership style from the backslapping Boehner, who plans to retire shortly after his successor is set in place.

As the Lord leads, please pray:

  • For Paul Ryan as he faces the vote of the full House on Thursday in his nomination for Speaker.
  • For Paul Ryan who has said his duties as Speaker will not interfere with his family time - and his ability to hold to that promise.
  • About the many issues yet to face the House of Representatives and the Ryan leadership style.

1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

Prayer Topic, "Prayer Return"

Join Us in Prayer for our Nation, our Leaders and Topics of Concern for the week of 10/23/15 – 10/29/15

Prayer Return

What happens in Heaven when you pray for America, or the world, or even your neighbor next door? Sometimes it doesn’t seem like very much. Do you ever wonder if those prayers are actually getting through?

The smoke of incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God.
Revelation 8:4

Here is the word picture of your prayers as described in the book of Revelation. In the future, when it’s time, God will reveal Himself to mankind in strength and holiness. Until then, your prayers and those of every saint from all of history are accumulating on an altar before the throne of God. Take a moment and imagine all of those prayers mingling together to make a brightly burning fire reminding God of His love for mankind and His promise to deliver us from sin.

Those prayers will be returned to Earth as an instrument of God’s judgment. It’s astonishing, and somewhat terrifying, to think every faithful prayer to God for the redemption of the world will be answered all at once! Scripture say’s not one will be lost or go unaddressed. Don’t stop praying for God’s mercy on America.

Prayer Topic, "Sagging Foundation"

Join Us in Prayer for our Nation, our Leaders and Topics of Concern for the week of 10/16/15 - 10/22/15

Sagging Foundation

In older homes, a common problem is an uneven floor. The sag results from carrying more weight over time than the supports can hold. The solution is simple – add more support beams to help distribute the weight.

The mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
Daniel 2:19

In today’s passage, when King Nebuchadnezzar threatened to kill all of the wise men of Babylon if they couldn’t interpret his dream, Daniel knew he needed more support. He told the king’s advisor he would interpret the dream. “Then Daniel went to his house and made the matter known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, and told them to seek mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery.” (Daniel 2:17-18) Daniel gathered with friends to pray, and God answered his specific prayer.

When your circumstances cause you to doubt and fear, seek more support. Gather together with friends and take your concerns about this country to the God of the Universe. Email prayers for the nation to your leaders in Washington D.C. and band together to provide more support for this country’s sagging spiritual foundation.

Prayer Topic, "Keep Doubt Away"

Join Us in Prayer for our Nation, our Leaders and Topics of Concern for the week of 10/09/15 - 10/15/15

Keep Doubt Away

Unbelief is instability. Abraham was to be the father of a great nation, and for years he waited; his trust waivered and he went ahead of God, having a son by Hagar. But then he doubted the Lord’s promise no longer, giving only glory to Him and growing stronger in his faith until the promise was fulfilled in Isaac. “That is why his faith was ‘counted to him as righteousness.’” (Romans 4:22)

No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith.
Romans 4:20

Has your faith weakened? Is there instability in your life, uncertainty on the job or an attitude of rebellion at school? Is government corruption making you doubt that any good will prevail? Or is it closer to home…has pain or sorrow made you doubt God’s goodness?

God’s promise is true. He “will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5) His plan is to work all things together for good for those who believe (Romans 8:28). In everything, give Him thanks and praise – keep unbelief and doubt away. Trust Him to give you peace. Grow in your faith as you study His Word. Then intercede for this nation and your family…for the stability that only belief in God can give.
