Prayer for our Nation, its Leaders and Topics of Concern for 10/10/13 - 10/16/13

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Everyone wants a little respect. While some demand it, wise people know you cannot force respect. It is earned – by honoring your word, putting others above yourself, or pitching in when someone needs help.

Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father‘s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Luke 12:32

You can’t focus on the character trait itself; instead, you must focus on the actions that instill respect. In today’s passage, Christ cautions His listeners not to worry about their needs being met. He tells them in Luke 12:31 to “seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you.” God’s provision is a result of obedience and focusing on Him, just as respect is a result of a life well lived.

Are you consumed with worry for your own household or the future of America? When you give too much attention to a problem, you’ve shifted the emphasis off of God. Ask your Heavenly Father to help you put Him first in everything, and watch how it changes both your own home life and trickles out to change America. Pray, too that the president and vice-president would learn to put their focus on God and, in doing so, earn the respect of many.

The United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit includes the Districts of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Puerto Rico and Rhode Island.

As the Lord leads, BOLDLY pray:
  • That God would manifest Himself in the life of Sandra Lee Lynch, drawing her in undeniable ways to Himself and His grace.
  • For wisdom and discernment for Judge Lynch as she administers the affairs of the First Circuit and deliberates on the cases before the Court.
  • For an outpouring of God’s love on Sandra, John and their family.

If the international community lifts sanctions on Iran without ensuring the guaranteed end to uranium enrichment, Europe and the rest of the world will face hundreds of nuclear weapons in the hands of a "murderous" regime, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a series of interviews with European media outlets Thursday.

The Senate on Thursday passed a bill that would guarantee death benefits be paid to the families of troops killed in action, even as lawmakers bashed the Pentagon for letting the situation get to this point.

House Speaker John A. Boehner (Ohio) on Thursday proposed a six-week extension of the federal debt limit -- no conditions attached -- but it was unclear if a majority of his fellow Republicans would support it.

The Federal Circuit is unique among the thirteen Circuit Courts of Appeals. It has nationwide jurisdiction in a variety of subject areas, including international trade, government contracts, patents, trademarks, certain money claims against the United States government, federal personnel, veterans’ benefits, and public safety officers’ benefits claims.

As the Lord leads, BOLDLY pray:

  • For God to make Himself known in mighty and undeniable ways in the life of Judge Rader, drawing the Judge closer to Himself and His grace.

  • For an outpouring of God’s love upon the Rader family.

Once appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, Justices have life tenure unless they resign, retire, take senior status, or are removed after impeachment (although none has ever been removed). Each Justice has one vote, and, while many cases are decided unanimously, many of the highest profile cases often expose ideological beliefs that track with philosophies of law and judicial interpretation.
As the Lord leads, BOLDLY pray:

  • That God would reveal Himself mighty in the life of Justice Elena Kagan, drawing her close to Himself and His grace.
  • For wisdom and discernment for Justice Kagan as she deliberates the cases that come before the Court and advances her opinions on them.
  • For an outpouring of God’s love upon Justice Kagan.

 1 Timothy 2:1-3
  King James Version (KJV)

1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
